Local Campaigner, Mark Jewell has welcomed plans for every child in infant school in England to receive a free school lunch.
From September 2014 all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 including 40,200 children in Lancashire will benefit from a free and healthy hot meal at lunchtime.
Commenting, Mark Jewell said;
“This is excellent news for infant school pupils and their parents. Not only will this help a child’s educational attainment but will also help with the household finances.”
“Millions of parents across the country are feeling the squeeze. During the course of a year, the average family spends £400 on lunch for each child. We are determined to ease the financial burden for these families and give every child the chance in life they deserve, building a stronger economy and a fairer society.”
