Mark at school w BowebLiberal Democrats in the Coalition Government have given schools in Lancashire a £33,439,000 Christmas present.

The cash is an increase in the pupil premium funding. The Pupil Premium covers any primary or secondary school pupil that has been registered for Free School Meals in the past six years. For 2013/2014, the Premium will increase from £600 to £900 per pupil.

Commenting, County Councillor Mark Jewell said, “Within my own district of Preston North West an additional £376,100 will go local schools this next year, as a direct result of Liberal Democrats in government.”

“It will enable headteachers to spend this money, in any way they see fit, to support the most disadvantaged pupils and benefit all their classmates too. This money does not just help the poorest children, it helps every child. Fewer children falling behind means less disruption in class and a better education for everyone.”

“For too long, social background has been a deciding factor in a child’s chances for the future.”

“I am proud that the Liberal Democrats are helping every child in Lancashire to reach their full potential.”
