Running the Preston Guild for Charity

County Councillor Mark Jewell will be running the Preston Guild runs to raise money for Charity. Having already completed the Guild 5K in May, he will now be running the 10K, the full marathon in October and the 10 miler.

He is hoping to raise money and awareness for the Children’s Chronic Arthritis Association and Lancashire Mind.

He explained, “I have chosen these charities simply because different close friends have experienced the difficulties of mental health problems or having a child with chronic arthritis. I have been surprised to learn that as many as one child in every thousand in the UK suffer from Chronic Arthritis. Little is known of the causes of this disease and the CCAA is the leading charity offering practical support and raising awareness.”

“Mental health problems are also experienced by one in four of us every year. But there is still prejudice and misunderstanding around it. With higher rates of dementia and depression than the national average in Lancashire there is a real need for greater education and awareness of mental health problems.”

Mark Lunney, CEO of Lancashire Mind said, “We are delighted with the support given to mental health in Lancashire by County Councillor Mark Jewell, as Mind are committed to ensuring a greater understanding and awareness of better mental health in the County for all. Stress, Depression and Anxiety, along with conditions such as Dementia can affect everybody and anybody. Marks efforts will assist us to continue our work in supporting as many people as we can to access services not just from Mind but from other partners who work with us.”

Caroline Cox, from CCAA said, “CCAA is extremely grateful to Mark for doing these events to raise funds for CCAA and to help raise awareness of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis”.
