County Councillor Mark Jewell has described Larches Wood as the heart and lungs of the Larches Ward. There is now only one Larch tree in the wood from which the area takes its name.
County Councillor Mark Jewell, who lives on the ward near the woods said, “As a local team we have always tried to keep the wood as a beautiful natural environment having arranged clean ups of the wood over the past seven years. Unfortunately, the bridge had recently been further damaged to the extent of being a safety concern. This was raised with the parks department and the bridge has now been repaired.”
There will be a clean up of the Wood on Saturday 25th February from 1-3pm meeting at the Elswick Road entrance. Everyone is welcome to come along and help the Park Rangers and Friends tidy this beautiful green space and try your hand at learning some new conservation skills and creating a new habitat for wildlife. All helpers can also make and take away a free bird feeder.
