Liberal Democrats on Lancashire County Council are supporting the Local Government Associations campaign for a Judicial Review of a cut to the Education Formula Grant.
LibDem education spokesman at LCC, Allan Knox said, “This cut is not part of the austerity budget, but was a last minute move to fund academies in Lancashire. We believe the governments calculations are way out. Th £5m cut from the grant for Lancashire is in excess of savings to LCC from the building of academies. We are thus supporting calls for a Judicial Review.”
Spokesman, CC Mark Jewell added, “Whilst we object to the cut in the Education Formula Grant, LibDems in the coalition government have secured over £10.7m in the pupil premium targeted to help over 25,000 students from poorer backgrounds in Lancashire get a better education.”
“The premium gives headteachers across Lancashire the freedom to use the money how they want, in the ways they know work – not how politicians in Whitehall tell them to.”65 Comments
