The former BMW Car Showroom, at the junction of Blackpool Road and Abingdon Drive, is shortly to be demolished.

This follows the approval of a planning application for two shops and a dentist surgery. Cllr Jewell objected to this development based on concerns around the proposed entrance relative to the traffic lights and access to the pharmacist. This objection was formally submitted by Lancashire County Council.

However, Lancashire County Council subsequently withdrew their objection based upon the applicants undertaking a number of conditions. This went to Preston City Council, as the planning authority and was rejected. Nonetheless, the application was approved at appeal.

Some of the conditions to this application include, restricting the retail floor space, limiting opening times and prohibiting access from Blackpool Road.

Cllr Jewell commented, “I am not entirely convinced that the original basis of objection has been satisfactorily addressed. Nonetheless, I am reassured that planning criteria is now met with these conditions.”
